1991 GT 5.0 rack & pinion replacement help
I have an automatic 1991 GT 5.0 with power steering. I need to replace my leaking rack & pinion assembly, but am not sure which one to buy. I called a few local parts stores and it sounds like I have a few options. There seems to be multiple options:
a) Standard steering and Sport steering
b) 2.25, 2.5 and 3.0 turning lock to lock
c) 1pc. or 2pc. mounting bushings
I think I have the Sport steering because the steering wheel only turns 1 1/4 revolutions in either direction from the straight forward position. I was told that Sport steering helps so one doesnt have to turn the wheel as much to turn. The parts stores also said that I should be able to turn the steering wheel to see if I have a 2.25, 2.5 or 3.0 lock to lock, but I couldnt even complete 2 revolutions.
I am probably going to but a remanufactured assembly from PepBoys or Kragen auto. I also found one at http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/mm...ack~parts.html
Do I need to remove the assembly currently installed to see which to replace it with? If someone can point me in the right direction as to what rack and pinion steering assembly to buy, I would appreciate it!
