Default Rims and tires

Hi guys i have a 92 gt and was wondering a few things. I plan to go to 17 inch rims and tires. Now they make an aftermarket 17 inch rim that looks like the 16 pony by marymount or something and was going to go with that. Whats the widest i can go without takeing the quad shocks out in the back?
Also whats the widest tire i can put back there with the shocks removed and what do u when u take the shocks out? replace it with something? Can i put 255 40 17 in the front of a 92?

thanks

255's should be fine. I have 245's and there is still alittle bit of room. The 285's need quad shock removal I would think. 315's wont come close without modifying the wheel well.
