14-23 pedestal, 55 stud. Did I pass? I have a question, t5, and it's not meant to pi$$ you off or anything, just a question. You appear to be a young man, and you mention your mechanic. Why not build the engine yourself? You're not lacking in "know how", and think how much fun it would be. You seem to be second guessing not only yourself, but any info offered by guys on the forum. If you screw up, or have questions regarding the info you get here, take your own advice and do some more research, but don't research yourself into a nervous breakdown. Being an old man, I believe that I know a lot about a little and not much about anything else, but taking and combining all the threads, and problems become more understandable. Like someone else on this forum said, you need to relax.

Sorry you're pi$$ed t5, but I got some more info for you at least.

B cam: duration at .050= 224*/224*. Lift= .480"/.480"
Powerband= 2000-5500rpm

You are going to need a gross lift of at least .540 or more to get to 6000rpm. At that point, I would pay particular attention to piston/valve clearance.

This would mean switching to the x cam, with lift at .542/.542, or a cam from a different manufacturer with similar specs. This would be a pita on the street, but to take it further, to get to anywhere near 7000rpm, lift would need to increase to .575 or better. I wish you all the best, and good luck on your new motor.

thanks but I already know all this except for the part of it not being able to rev to 6. Unless people have lied under reviews for the cam it should rev that high it just wont make plower up there

I would say exactly. It won't continue to make power past the rated rpm of the cam. Taking it that high, if it gets near 6000, is a waste of both torque and hp. It is theoritically (sp?) past the point of making power. It is floating in a zone that goes nowhere, where if you had shifted at 5500, it would be coming on strong thru the next gear and pulling like crazy.

I don't believe that anybody has lied, as many engines without limiters will rev past the redline, fooling people into believing that high r's are better. Not so, especially with a common American overhead valve v8. Don't mix up overhead valve with overhead cam.

The 5.0 h.o. engine was built for torque. The modular 4.6 dual overhead cam was built for all ford compatibility. They lack torque (as do the honda's, and most ricers), and therefore rely on high rpm's to make hp. Not a bad thing, but as you already know, it takes tons of bucks to make them run with the big (torque) dogs, and none of that money is going to buy them what makes the damn car move and do it fast, torque.

What do you want your ride to do? Street, track, both? You have the right combo to run quick, for what it is. You were right in your first posts about nitrous and s/c. But do you want to go 7000rpm with those combo's on a stock block with hypereutectic pistons and a cast crank, knowing that rpm's, not boost, kills a motor?

There are no liars on this site that are trying to steer you wrong. Everybody has their own opinion and experience, or, like you and I and a bunch of others, some research. Take it for what it's worth, humor and all, and enjoy it.
