why build a 302, not a 331 or a 347?

im not sure as to the answer to your question, but i think only the 80s blocks have roller camshafts, and the holes to mount the dogbone hold down

well yea you could, but the older 302 block on to set up for a roller cam, but you can always have it drilled out for the spider to hold the lifters and stuff in.

^^^not the best idea!! why...cause with stock lifters in a pre roller block will require the use of a reduced base circle cam = skinny bump stick[:'(].....and to build a 347 yes you use a 302 block ,notch skirts for rod bolt clearance, bore it .030, 3.4 throw on the crank and a 5.4 rod or 5.315 rod best IMO FOR ITAND ANY 85-95 ROLLER 302BLOCK WILL WORK FOR A STROKER....BUT IF YOU PLAN TO build a 302 up watch out for 86 block as pistons are not notched for valve clearance but if your rebuilding a 302 and boring it , none of that will matter as you'll be buying new pistons

If you want to build a strong engine, rather that be a regular 302, or a stroked 306, 331, or 347, and you have the funds, I'd look into the new Boss 302 block. These blocks are much stronger than the older 302s, and as a result, will take much more of a beating when being geared towards performance. Just another thought for ya.
