Default is it possible to put a t-5 from a turbo coupe in a 5.0

i was wondering if there is anyway of putting a t-5 out of a 88 turbo coupe and it bolting up to the 5.0 if i just get the bellhousing?
iv been told by other people that the input shaft would be changed but i was wonderin if anyone has done it without having to change anything but the bellhouseing?

The input shaft is too small and would need to be swapped out. Also, the 2.3 T5 is geared lower than the 5.0

88 2.3 T5 - 3.97 2.34 1.46 1.00 0.79

wrong!!!! you don't need to swap out input...just use the correct pilot bearing and away you go..been there done that..so yes you can use a turbo coupe t-5 with correct pilot bushing

I believe you need the pilot bearing from a mid 80's diesel ranger. Don't quote me on that though, I'd look it up.

Its just the same as using a 4 cyl t5 from the stang. Just need the correct pilot bearing. BUT along with being geared a little different they are weaker!!! So don't expect for it to last a long time if you are driving your car like most of us do

Hey, I ran 12's on a 4 cylinder t5 in my gt, but I also didn't have the tires or suspension to grip well in lower gears. Mine still worked 100% perfect when I swapped it for one out of a '91 gt. No grinding or anything. (And I do beat the hell out of my cars)

I'm guessing it's just improper shifting that kills them. Or grabbing & yanking into the next gear attempting to shift as fast as possible without having a shifter with stops.

My brother had a few give out on him during normal sunday driving but he beat on them a few times and had the suspension and tires to hook on the streets. But they are rated for a lower torque rating compared to the v8's.

I ran a non wc t5 from a turbo coupe for a whole racing season in my 87gt. I had well over 100 passes and couple nitrous passes on it. I launched of the rev limiter with slicks and I just couldn't break the thing. The next season I swapped to a t5z for piece of mind and blow it after 20 pases. Go figure. You need a bca bearing part number 202ss or 202ff.

For those that say they don't hold up heres proof:

I'm the blue car, mjr46 and pro50sc were both there that day if there are any doubters.

I vouch for zach too & i don't even know the guy...

I can just see it now... a bunch of people swapping their v8 transmissions for 4 cylinder ones[sm=smiley36.gif]. Honestly I think the 4 cylinder one worked better than my current v8 one... but it was used so it was probably mistreated before me. I know it's mistreated now.
