oh hey, also, the pushrod guide plates are weird, on the left ones the right side of the guide is even with, or maybe even past in some cases, the pushrod holes? is it supposed to be like this, i mocked up the pushrods and rockers, and the exhaust was at an angle, and the intake was straight, i was under the impression they were both supposed to be straight.....

you'll need to use the washers cause you don't want to torque down the hardened nut on soft aluminum or it'll gaul it up.........as for the push rod guide plates If I remember right mine may have been that way to... but what you are looking for is when setting up the valvetrain is that the roller tip sit squarely on the tip and not off to one side..if they sit squarely then you'll be fine

You got the wrong stud kit for your heads. It didn't come with washers because the adaptors you speak of serve that purpose. Send it back and get the right kit... it will come with washers instead of the hole adaptors. Also, don't forget the torque sequence is the same but the torque amounts are lower with studs vs. bolts. Follow the instructions that come with the ARP kit.

the washers you got are for heads with 1/2 inch bolt holes using the stock 7/16 size bolts/studs.
afr 165 has 7/16 holes and just need the flat washers.

it's not the wrong kit...it'll work with 7/16 or 1/2 the kit you got.. as long as you have the washers your fine........I did a set of eddy rpm's that had 1/2 holes in them and I used the bushings in that kitso as to be able to use 7/16 studs and used the washers... worked fine for 3 years.....your heads are 302 based so no bushings needed

it didnt come with washers, so....

i ordered a new set, im gonna send those back...

i noticed EXACTLY what the problem was ordering the new ones though

on summit, if you choose the head type "AFR" the only product that comes up is the one with the bushings... so i backed out and got ones with washers.

now if you excuse me, im going to go take the studs out and box them up so i can get the money back.... brb

You do not need cylinder head bolt bushings.

The head dowels do the centering job and the bolts/studs just clamp the cylinder heads down.
