Default brand new starter went

i was at work before, everything was fine, and about a month ago i put in a new starter in, everything was fine until now. I go to start my car and the starter keeps on turning, i turn the key off take it out, and the starter is still turning; so quickly, i drove it home while the starter is still turning, smoke is coming out,i smell something buring, 5 min later the starter stops spinning and when i get home i shut my car off and try to start it again and its dead, starter went. any ideas of what happened and what to do.

on top of all starters their is a solonoid, sometimes it sticks. usally the best thing to do is tap the top part of the starter. it happened to me with a starter relay. after a couple smacks it unstuck itself.

actually tapping them is a good way to make them worse. just bring it back.
i'm not sure on the year, but 90 or 91 is when Ford went with a starter/solenoid combo instead of a remote mounted solenoid. if you have the remote mounted one, replace that at the same time.

actually tapping it it a good way to get it to unstick....look at it this way you can sit there and do what the op did and tear up a flywheel and starter or smack it a few times to unstick it......a month ago while at the body shop with PRO50SC...his wifes car did just that and he popped the hood as quick as he could and ripped off the remote selonoid cover and smacked it a few times and it stopped thankfully...either way you most likely need a ne selonoid and now starter and inspect the teeth on the flywheel for any damage

yeah, mine didn't do that but it was making a god awful griding noise... so i was dumb and tried it a few more times, now nothing... my starter is fried... and my flywheel is all chewed up[:@]

So for the last few weeks i drove my car before i tore it down i was push starting my heavy *** car. [:@]
