Hey just wondering what the basic hp and torque of these engine's are? And if there are any real problem's with these moter's and what would be the least expensive to do. looking into doing one.

I believe the 302 is rated at 215-225 HP if that helps any

Also I heard the 347 has an oil burning issue...

used to......most of the companies have fixed 'em....i KNOW CHP doesnt have oil burning issues anymore............at least i dont think so.....

and ive heard usually, its like 1hp per cubic inch usually when its got a good set of heads and exhaust and the goodies, but, im not promising nothing, so, dont hold me to it

the oil burning problem for the 347 is still there, now they start burning oil at 50,000 miles instead of 30,000 miles, as before. they temorally fixed it. it just last longer with out burning oil...

ohhh. ok. either way, i can deal with some oil burning for the gobs of torque you get out of a 347

306 is just a bored 30 over 302... if i take off 2 plug wires .i got a 306...

Actually the reason a 347 used to burn oil was because the wristpin interfeared with the oil ring. The old 347s burned oil all the time because of this. From the time you turned your fresh 347 over for the first time, the oil burning was happening. It wasnt a wear issue, it was a design issue, so milage didnt matter. Coast High Performance's 347 kits burn NO oil due to an innovative piston design. They guarntee their 347's will run just as long and trouble free as their 331's. The life expectancy of both engines is 100,000 miles. The owner of CHP said the only reason he still offers the 331 is because so many people are still gunshy of the 347.

Someone posted something somewhere about the oiling issue really being about the increased angle of the rod /piston on the longer throw crank. Any truth to that?

yeah well a bored 30 over 302 is still fun to play with thats what I've got and it has plenty of adrenaline inducing power and torque though I don't know the numbers

Hey thanks for the info so far, also i have heard that with the new 347 kit's they dont burn oil, one more question so what do you guys think is a better moter 331 or 347 with the oil issue apart and which reqires less work and money?
