What should my timing be set at?? please help me??>>
ok, my car is an 89' fox with a carb'd H.O. 302 it has a edelbrock 600 carb, performer rpm intake, a small cam (unsure what exactly it is), mallory dist., 8.8 with a 4.10 gear, headers to a full catless flowmaster exhaust. i just bought the car about a week ago and i want to make sure that the timing is right, i have the timing light and i read the tech article about how to do it on a fuel injected car, is there anything that i need to do different on a carb'd car?? and also what should i set it at?? 12* advanced, 14* adv.?? also one last thing the marks on the crank are very hard to see i tried wipeing them off but they are still very hard to see. any help you guys can give would be great! thanks alot

WD-40 around the distributor base and let it soak. 12* adv. will be fine with pump gas. I have heard of people running 14* on the street but with octane boost. With the engine off look at the timing marks, find 12* and mark it with something bright like and white marker pen. Then you be able to see where you want the timing when running with a gun.

Well teh first thing is mark teh balancer like the other guy said but mark it on zero if you have a dial in timing light, with it marked on zero you can then set your timing light between 10-15* but the higher the timing the higher the octane you need to run, and then you should know th e rest!
As for the sticky dist get someone tospin the engine over and you try turning the dist while they do, unplug the coil wire b4, might tingle a bit if you dont!
Are you running the timing and dist thru your factory harness and computer? if so the above will work, if you have an aftermarket distibutor and are just running the old style carb setup thru a msd box or what have you, you might want 34-38* timing!
hope that helps some!
