Default map light issue

any idea what could be the reason the map light doesnt work? i heard its a common problem when it stops working mine never worked (the guy i bought my 5.0 from left it in terrible shape) how would i know if its the wiring to the map light or the map light itself?

ok well, the map light should be controlled by the dimmer switch, correct?
so does your dimmer switch work?

I dont have a map light but neither of the lights on my visors work.

Im assuming you meant the map light on the visor and not the dome light.

theres a lil button like the visor lights have when you open the flaps to look at the mirror for the visors, well it has on above it and when u press the latch the little button depresses and im guessing thats when the light should turn on. it took forever to find an image but i found one it looks like this. http://i17.ebayimg.com/05/i/000/ff/32/2c53_2.JPG

sad to say, but you wont find anything more than generic help here. thats custom, not factory.
those style lights should auto-power-on when you pull it down from the parked position. i can only assume that either that switch is dead, or there is no power going into it to begin with.
start taking it apart and do some testing.
