Fuel pump spraying fuel

Fuel pump spraying fuel
Hi everyone, the stated problem is occurring in a 1983 5.0. Fuel is spraying out of a hole on the top of the pump which is pointed right at the oil filter. I cranked it a lot before it started, because stupid me forgot to reconnect the coil-to-distributor wire. Is the pump possibly overflowing or did something break. I've been trying to look up info online and in the Haynes manual but that thing should be used as a fire-starter and nothing more. Any suggestions would greatly help!
Thanks,
Leon

often times they put such things like wheep holes on water pumps and hols like you have on the pump that when leaks indicates bad seal or diaphram..replace the pump

mechanical pumps shouldn't ever leak like that.. the last thing they are designed to do is spray fuel likr that externally.. I'd fix it asap before driving it anymore
