It is common for a pushrod to be "loose" enough to turn it by your fingers. Just check for up and down play.

Also, they may not be bent.

Check them first before throwing them away and roll them on piece of glass.

with those pushrods... I wouldnt even give it a second thought... get a set of chromemoly pushrods and throw those mild steel pieces of crap away

Ive seen 2 cars with those exact pushrods, bend the crap out of them... with NO PTV issues

I'd have to agree with above, those push rods just won't survive. If they're not bent yet, they soon will be. The other thing that happens is the push rods tend to pogo under use. As the valve starts to open, the push rod bends a little bit. When the valve starts to close, it springs back, and creates bad harmonics in the springs and valves.

But, to address your original problem of valve train noise. Since you're using pedestal mount rockers and aftermarket parts, it can bedifficult get them to the correct specs. The Comp Cams web site has an excellent tutorial. What you want is 3/4 turn of the retaining bolt after zero lash.

With a pedestal mount, you want the bolt torqued to a certain spec. If you're lucky, those two requirements will match. So, use the torque wrench like the factory manual specifies. But pay attention to how many turns past zero lash it takes to get that torque spec.

Since there's a lot of noise, there's probably too much slack. The only way to fix that is with longer push rods. Use a checking push rod to find the correct size, then order new Magnums in that size - two problems resolved at once.

But, also remember that the cheaper roller rockers are just noisy. If you want them quiet, you have to pay the bucks for quality parts.

i have the same problem valvetrain noise. but i have nice svo 1.6 ped mount rr's i used the shims from summit and a lot of time trying to get it just perfect. 25 ftlbs come almost exactly 3/4 turn past 0 lash even checked after running the engine and breaking everything in same results. wish i had stud mount. just sometimes the prices you will pay for power.

My ENTIRE point of my post was to be careful in not taking a post, so literally.

First, make sure if they are bent before throwing $50-$80 in the trash.

If they are bent, throw them away! If not, there may be another problem.
