RE: gear advice?
you should just get your whole rearend rebuilt while you are doing it , when i put gears in i had the rearend straightened and the axle tubes welded to the pumpkin, 31 spllin axles, auburn diff, all new bears and grease seals, girdle, and gears......a little more expensive but you do not have to worry about anythign breaking down the road for the most part

RE: gear advice?
well i didn't read all these but but i will tell you the reason for my answer
and the answer is 4:10 are the best... hands down , if your afraid to go 4:10 you are either a twin turbo guy or should not even bother swapping them out
3.73 are NOT enuff on a stockish mustang (under 275 real hp) to launch hard on a sticky tire... you WILL bog on a 5-speed... aod's need 4:56 just to bark the tires but thats a different story
anyways.... the rpm difference cruisng w/ 3.73 to 4.10 is only 250, so the mileage and rpms is not even worth mentioning. most exxagerate it so bad you'd think you get 25 mpg w/ 3.73 and 10 w/ the 4.10's... just not true... you raise only about 250 for every gearset. so going from 2.73 to 4.10 is a total of about 1000 rpms, so basically your in your powerband immediately in every gear
i know too many poeple who did 3.73 cuz they were afraid, and then they bogged all the time til they started spraying the car or otherwise added another 100 hp to it, and it still ran slower than if they had 4.10's
but thats my opinion

RE: gear advice?
I've had alot of cars with deep gears. My Mustang has 3.73's. Had a 70 Road Runner with 4.10s and had a 383 Dart with 4.30's.
Great gear for the strip and all must be accompanied with a sticky tire.
Disadvantage. Every mile on the highway sucks. Sure gears will help some cars more than others but for a stocker like Mustang you take alot of dual duty out of the car just for 1 or 2 tenths.
