Default Fuel Everywhere!!

I was smelling gas yesterday so i took of my air cleaner and gas was everywhere. My idle misxture screws aren't turned out that much and the fuel pump is pretty new. I took my fuel cap off and had a ton of pressure release. Is pressure build up in the tank enought to force fuel past the needles in the carb? I'm still going to get a vented cap.

What fuel pump and do you have a pressure regulator? Or do you know what your pressure is? The pressure release from the tank may just be due to the heat of summer.
