Default Radiator prob, or what?

Hey so for about the last month my car has been getting to a temp that Im not really comfortable with when theyres no air flow..
It would just heat up when I was haulin *** under heavy throttle, not too hot, but itd get up there...
So I flushed the coolant in the rad and the block with 50/50, and that along with my 160* t-stat I figured that would fix it.

So now, when Im moving with air getting on the engine its fine, but sitting still, or going WOT (like 0-100), it goes pretty far up on the temp gauge.

So Im wondering if perhaps my rad is junk, maybe fans arent kicking on, or maybe water pump? Let me know what you think

Merr... come to think of it, I do hear kind of a squeal/squeak noise when I cut the car off after running for a while, I just noticed it and thought it was the fans, what you think about that? I should look into that and make sure its the fans. Im pretty sure, because it kind of winds down and stops after the engine is off..

Also I just realized that I didnt put the coolant in, my buddy did while I tightened the block plugs, is it possible that he did an uneven mix with the water and coolant? Would that affect it that much

Another vote for the fan. Sounds like it cools fine with good airflow. So you arent getting enough at idle.

another +1 on the "fan" or perhaps the fan sensor.....if you think your radiator has a problem/leakage, inspect it! it would be wet........50/50 mixture is the way to go!

Well there are no leaks, I know that, but it seems that its just not cooling enough, like the rad runners are junk. idk I guess it could be the fans, Ill go observe if/when they come on.

But like I said before, today I drove 60 miles on the fwy cruisin about 80 real light on the throttle and the temp was right at 180*, then I got off the fwy and sat at a light for a good 3 min and I was at 210* just like that

why dont you get your car up to temperature then pop the hood open and visually see that the fan is running.

I was having a cooling issue as well when i wasnt driving on the highway.

Turns out my CCRM (constant control relay module) went bad. The CCRM controls when the fan comes on along with other things.

A few months later, the bearings in the fan motor seized up, so the fan couldnt spin. I figured this out b/c the connector for the fan was smoking and melted to the fan. Also, when I took the fan out, it did not spin freely. I had to push it really hard to crack it loose(careful blades are sharp).

Hopefully you get it figured out soon. Post back up with your progress so we can get ur pony back on the road!

Deep

Oh shes still on the road, its not a deathly issue, it never goes above about 215*, its just it should be much much cooler than that.

Im gonna look into the squeaking noise coming from the fan or water pump, only noticeable when I cut it off.... It sounds like a bearing noise, could be either though, I guess.

What the average life span for stock rad/ electric fan/ water pump?

Thumbs up

Something else to look for, over time the seals on the radiator side tanks break down. I have the original stock radiator in mine. Run a pressure test on the system. Check the radiator cap. Check to see if you have a pin hole in the heater core. R/R the thermostat make sure it is opening all the way. The seals and the radiator cap may not leak, but under operating temp, they could draw vacum and let air into the system causing it to run hotter and cause the waterpump impellor to cavitate. Also a pinhole somewhere could alow air into the system.

I have a very similar problem to yours during the summer months and found no leaks. During the winter months when ambient air temp dropped below freezing I noticed the lower corner of my radiator was wet and over a long period of time I would have to add anti-freeze to my overflow tank. No steady drips.

You can pull your radiator and take it to a shop and have them replace the tank seals clean and pressure test it for about $60 or buy a good all alum. radiator $$$.

I have the original radiator, water pump and fan over 14 years old.
