I'm going to re-stab my dist. I read something about disconnecting the spout connector while setting it to 10* I didn't do that the first time so maybe that was part of my problem?

DING DING DING, sounds like you have the answer...maybe. Do it and see what happens. If it does the same thing then follow Mjr's instructions and turn the dizzy a little both ways until it fires and runs correctly. If you keep getting the marks and it doesn't fire then maybe your balancer has spun some causing your right marks to be wrong.

Can the balancer get off? I believe there was a key on it so you can only put it on one one way and not turn it?

The balancer is made of 2 pieces of metal that has rubber joining the 2. The outer metal tends to start spinning around the other making your reading be off. Happens often with old balancers.

I got most of the old gas out. Put 5 gallons of fresh gas in it. Now it will start and barely idle by it self, after give it slight gas to keep the rpms around 1500. The 10* mark on the balancer is showing up in the hole marker thing, not on that edge if you understand that. That's where it seems to run best though.

If the balancer spun wouldn't it make the engine shake? or run bad? Cause when I hold it at 1500rmps or so it runs smooth. Also if I rev it up over 2000rpms it will backfire.

Any ideas? Does it still seem to be timing related? My firing order is right and I followed the guide by i *think* adder and got it stabbed right. This is so frustrating. Oh and I also had the spout out and then also put it in.

Stock cam. I'm just tryin to get it timed so it will run right. The 10* mark should be on the edge of the marker right?

When my balancer was spun it was about 30 degrees off. It ran like crap at a normal idle, was decently smooth above 1200 rpms and backfired around 3000 and spuddered all to ****. It really didn't shake bad until it was in the upper rpms and spuddering like it had a bad miss.
I just pulled my dizzy and moved it a tooth each way until it ran like it was supposed to. When I got a new balancer it turned out to be on the right tooth then, just a few degrees off.
