speedometer gear
hey fellows i put 3:55's in my car a few months ago and i was told by a buddy of mine that the 20tooth gear would calibrate so i bought one and it not the right one. the 20 tooth is for the 3:08 i think. it was closer than the original one but still 15 or so mph off. on the steeda website they have a white 23 tooth gear thats for the 3:55's but i've heard they dont last long due to the teeth getting wore off of them really quickly.that you're supposed to change the drive gear at the output shaft. i was just wondering if anybody has tried the 23 tooth speedo gear rather than changing the drive gear at the output shaft. i dont really want the speedo gear to get chewed up and end up in the tranny fluid. any help is appreciated.

that chart is a good one.
the 5-speed VS aod gears are different altogether. different pitch to the tteth, so start there.
aod cars are all 8t drive gears, and the gear is machined on the shaft so your onlu option might be a 23t
but an '89 5-speed is a 7t and you can use a 20t
i'm betting you had an aod and the old one was purple, thats a 21t
also if thats the case, you notice no diiff whatsover cuz you had 3.27 gears in it to begin with
but maybe i'm wrong
