Thumbs down Son of a... (No water)

so i finally picked up the 87 today. was driving it home, and after a while it started spark knocking a little, i was like meh ok maybe the plugs need to get changed. fine. kept driving, kept getting worse. made it to my offramp (about 25 miles away) and the car shuts off. pulled it in, opened the hood, burned smell and smoke, no fluids anywhere so.. tried to start.. wouldn't crank wouldn't crank wouldn't crank. thought it was the battery no. waited a while got it cranked and started driving again to get to my house (3 miles) and every time i'd stop it'd shut off. but would crank right up. got it home, wouldn't crank. had my father look at it, and he was like (what the hell, theres no water in here) absolutely bone dry. no water in the radiator at all. so we're filling it, and spraying down the radiator to cool it off.. finally got it cranked. saw bubbles in the radiator but man when u gassed it.. the water flew out of the radiator everywhere... pops said it probably had no water in it, blew the head gaskets.

my question is.. is there anything else i should check or? also the lot i got it from said it was "checked" as i just got it today so..

how bad did it get eaten up?

When your car started acting like that you didn't even think to look at the temp gauge? Tisk tisk... if it's blown, you have no one to blame but yourself. Yes it was stupid that they (whoever worked on the car) didn't put coolant in the radiator, but it wasn't much smarter of you to NOT look at the temp gauge and shut it off before any damage occured.
