i had a similar problem a few years back except mine started to do this while in gear. needless to say it drove itself into a fence while i had the key in my hand about 20ft. away. i brought my car to a shop known for its electrical work and it endeded up being my ignition switch. just some food for thought

Yeah, this has happened to me before and just happened this past weekend.
Right now the car is sitting till I get the time to look at it. I've replaced the solenoid before and have a new low amp starter just in case. I guess I should look into an ignition switch too.

Well for whatever reason, I am still having this problem.
I replaced the ignition switch and another starter solenoid on Thursday. The car started and ran fine for a couple of days. I dropped off my car at a shop to have some other work done. I was going to move the car and poof, the starter wouldn't shut off again.

I had a very similar problem. I replaced the starter (twice), Ignition switch (twice), and numerous solenoides. After many failed atempts, and out of desperation, I took the solenoid apart. I found that the copper contact bar was welding itself to the posts so the spring could not disengage it, unless I hit it with a hammer. It appeared to be getting to much current as soon as the engine fired and the alternator took over, causing it to weld. I believe it was a bad voltage regulator, I replaced the entire alternator, since I planned to anyway, and it hasn't happend since. Hopefully this will help you, I know how frustrating it is.

Wow. This guy is livin my life. I read this post and it's my life. The way I figured it is the solenoid shorted which caused the starter to fry out. try the starter. it worked for my car except when my solenoid went it melted my battery cables because it got so hot.

hmmm, interesting. Well it is at the shop now getting a bunch of mods done.
I am having a new PA Performance installed so maybe that might help.
I was thinking the alternator might have something wrong with it. When it was shipped, it wasn't packed well and maybe it got damaged. I'll have him check that after the new starter install.
Thanks for the replies people.
