95gt pinging/backfire
Just recently I've been having some problems with my stang. It has 126,XXX miles on it. It has a 255lph pump, bbk fp regulator, bbk shorties, and flowmaster exhaust. I just recently changes the plugs and wires as well as cleaned the MAF. The car pings at higher rpms (3500 - 4200) in first second and third gear. In addition, the car backfires at startup and when i downshift at high rpms. The fp is set to 45psi. Also, i bought the car with no h or x pipe and it is still currently without one. Would this have any affect. Any ideas would greatly be appreciated!
Edit: Car also failed emissions.

pinging is a result of spark knock/detonation which occurs usually as a result of poor octane and or bad gas, also pinging as it's so called can be a result of elevated cylinder temps which occurs when compression ratio is raised and this often occurs in an engine as a result of excessive carbon build up in the cumbustion chamber and or on tops of the piston, I'd try a good induction clean or what a lot like on here they call it a seafoam treatment......, also if the vehicle failed for emissions, what did it fail for??? you'll need cats's on to pass as the 5.0's emissions output was not designed to pass the sniffer without cats

re
Thanks for your input, if theres anychance you would care to futher explain the "seafoam" method that would be great, would bumping up the timing have any effect on the pinging/ backfire? I feel like the car is running rich but im not exactly sure. Like i said the fuel pressure is set to roughly 45. It failed HC 1.56 and CO 024.72. thanks! There are cats on the car.

well then I wouldn't attribute the pinging to that then cause only at 12 degrees and 93 octane should be sufficient to keep it from pinging, I'd lead towards carbon build up and have a well done seafoam treatment ot heavy duty induction clean done from a shop who uses BG products
