? on a crown vic 5.0

hey guys just had a question..guy in town has a 5.0 outta a crown vic just sittin in his garage..he pulled it out to make the car a demo car...anyway im not sure the year but its supposed to have less than 40k miles on the motor.. is this motor the same as the 5.0 in my 94?...all im really interested in is the block since mine has almost 115K miles and this one is probably in better shape than mine..i dont think the guy wants hardly anything for it..and if i left him all the accessories and heads, intake for scrap or whatever would it be worth it to pick up the extra block? if for nothing more than a spare or to do a side build that wouldnt have any deadline and not have my car down for any time..

you'll need to swap cams= non h.o cam and the heads are e6 style= crap so use the short block and swap in your cam:)

yea the heads were gonna get junked anyway so thats no biggy..and for the cam..if i end up givin the guy a few bucks for the shortblock then it'd be the base of a hci and then just a pull the old drop in the new type of deal...so it'd be gettin a different cam anyway...sounds good tho thanks for the info

sounds like you'll be fine then!! I'd get it as long as you can get it for a few hundred and make sure the pistons have valve reliefs in them..they should :)

lol knowing the guy whos got it...and where it sits right now it might be free..if not i cant see more than 100 for the block...his cousin..whos a friend of mine, sold his old 302 outta his 92 fox for 100 and that was complete with b-cam ..minus the intake, to my other friend
so i dont see it costin a whole lot lol..but ill check the pistons to make sure..

oh yea..about the pistons..are they forged or the hyper ones like mine now?

^^^I agree , I don't like to spend more than 150.00 for any short or long block 5.0, I always try to look for ones in the 100 dollar range, sometimes I win other times I pay what it takes if it is a rare and decent deal/price:)

The 87 LTD 5.0 I got had the E6 heads and flat top pistons same set up as the 86 HO.
All I plan on using is the block and maybe the crank on that motor eventually.

same with the 89 crown vic motor I got^^^^^^so that's why I told him to make sure it didn't have flat tops with no reliefs:D

Im not trying to be "funny" but a 5.0 with your mileage is not "high mileage".

I was still at top compression ratio with 193,022 miles, just had bad oil pressure when warm.

What wears in the 5.0 are the Main and Rod Bearings, Oil Pump and Head Gaskets.

If you want 2- 302's at your house then fine, otherwise, just remove yours rebuild, HCI or stroke it and save the $100 for block, $50 camshaft, and $ heads,.

well guy whos shop the motors in called me tonight so i went up n started tearing it down..one sides off completely, trans is all off, all thats left is one head is still on it n the cam...ended up being flat tops, but dont really matter i just want the block anyway..he's keepin intake, heads, trans, cam and now possibly crank too..because now this block wont be a 302 anymore..it may take a while but one im thru with this year of school ill be able to finally get a full time job n blow some money on the car lol...plus it was just fun tearin it down tonight...
