Smile Now what?

I just bought a 1979 ford mustang with 89 gt body kit has 146K on the body and around 40k on the engine rebuilt in 2006 5.0 engine f1 transmission, new calipers, new radiator, new front brake lines, new master cylinder, new thermostat, has an $800 fiber glass hood on it, other than that it is stock. I don't know much about mustangs (grew up in camaro family). It's in good shape. Body isn't rotted out only a little rust on floorboards and in wheel wells. Here is what it looks like so you have an idea.
I was wondering what sort of mods should I put on it to make it race ready (street not track). I have herd that stangs are notorious for there intakes being crappy is that true? I am not made of money so any tips tricks ideas that can help add HP and TQ on a budget would be greatly appreciated! Thank yoU!

try some gears. 4;10s. 3;73s too aren't bad from what i know. i am sure a lot of others will agree that gears are the best for the money. performance carburetor, drag radials, exhaust. those are cheapest.
