Default Cheaper Manual Steering Conversion

My PS Rack just puked, so I want to go manual. Do I NEED to spend the $375 for a Flaming river kit? Can I just buy the rack and bolt it up or is the shaft and tie rod ends required? I also searched on autozone and found a "Atsco / Rack & Pinion" that said manual for an 1988 for $200. Will this bolt up? If not, can I get a manual steering rack for a different model for cheaper? I know it will be a PITA to park, I don't care. Don't talk me out of it LOL! My PS pump has always sounded like s@%t regardless if it is full or not and I want it gone.

My Point: Simply put, how can I set up my car correctly with manual steering for cheap?

Why cheap out? Save up a bit longer and go for the good stuff.

And the paint looks good.

Thanks for the compliment!!! Damn I am glad I painted it on my own! I get so many compliments and it feels great!

To answer your question, my rack is leaking so bad, I cant really drive it. I want to fix it soon, but I am a college student and gas prices with a v8 is bad enough. If it is passable to save money, why not? I am guessing that even if I put in a new ps rack, the pump has always made nasty noises, so I am going to have to replace that too probably. I just don't want to spend more on a manual rack than it would cost to buy a new ps pump and rack.

Ford power steering pumps always make noise, I've had... 6 fords and they've all sounded the same. Not usually a reason for worry. Is it your only car? If you want, PM adder, I think he had one for sale pretty recently. And if you're that strapped for cash, you could probably find one or two at a junkyard and pull the parts you need to rebuild.

Thanks, I would like to try to go manual as a first choice, and if I would have to dish out over 300, then maybe I would consider just fixing the Power Steering.... Just really want a manual rack, only $$$ I guess, ugh.

Well PM AdderMk2, he had a Flaming River rack for sale just a few days ago. I don't know if he still has it, and he wasn't asking much.
