Default SHIFTER QUESTION????

hi i have a 89 gt 5.0 automatic... orginally the car was a 5 speed.. but they put a auto tranmission in but put a 86 shifter in it.. it reads P N OD D 2 1.... well as low as i can put it is in the 2.. which recognize as 1st gear... but the next one up is DRIVE.. so i figure its just the wrong shifter indicators... So i look to see what a reg 89 auto shifter would look like and it does NOT have a 2 only a P N OD D 1... How are you supposed to get in 2nd and STAY in it??? This might be the stupidest question in the world but I am very new to mustangs and never seen such a thing.. ????

Default RE: SHIFTER QUESTION????

My '90 GT is an AOD stock, and it does not have a selection for 2nd. I read in this forum once about a technique for shifting into 2nd and holding it. It was in a thread about shifting AOD's for quicker drag racing times. It also sounded like if you missed the shift sequence you could really screw up the transmission. Search the forum for 2nd, shifting, and AOD. I can't remember who posted the technique, but apparently he'd had good results with times driving the automatic.
