I took my cover off my 1991 LX on Sunday and turned the ignition switch and seen a puff of white smoke come out between the speaker grill and the windshield on the drivers side. I quickly turned the switch off , and am in the process of trying to find any signs of burnt wiring. It has not done it since. Has anyone else had this happpen?

THERE IS A RECALL on the ignition switch I believe on the mustang foxes........look down on the column at the electrical portion of the switch and trace wiring, most likely you'll find what your looking for at the harness conector

OK, I have searched all the wiring behind the dash on the drivers side and the steering column. I have not found anything that looks burnt. Again the smoke came out between the speaker grill and the windshield on the drivers side. Is it possible to see the smoke in this area and not around the steering column if it is the iginition switch? Ford Motor company ran the VIN number and told me my car was not included in the recall back in 96. What now?

Maybe the heater core is leaking. Have you noticed an oily residue on the windshield? Happened to me a while back.

There is no residue on the windshield, plus the heater core is on the passenger side. It had to be electrical, because it smelled like burnt rubber or plastic. The only thing I can find in the area where the smoke seemed to come from it the cruise control module, which I checked the circuit board for any signs of getting hot. Nothing there, I'm not sure where to look now, becaue it does not do it every time.
