5.0 turbo
#23
The turbo back plumbing isn't generally the problem area, it's the head to turbine housing inlet. If there was a horrible job done then it could crack from stress at high temps. That doesn't mean it will, but it can.
As far as durability, twin turboing a 5.0 is probably one of the easiest cars to do it to. If a piping problem arises you can easily take your stock headers (or a set of aftermarket unequal shorties), flip them upside down, weld an elbow to it, then a t3/t4 flange. As for the turbos, yet again; there are a vast amount of turbos that are perfect for this available for cheap. 84-86 turbocoupes (manual), some svo's, capri rs's, & xr4ti's came with t3 .60/.48 or .60/.63. Both are matched great for a 5.0 & their center cartridges are very easy to rebuild. I've had to rebuild a few of them, costs about $50 a piece. I actually just rebuilt one about a week and a half ago.
Then you can just make some straight 3" exhaust for it (make sure to get mandrel bends). Or you can put on some mufflers if it's not quiet enough for you, which I advise straight through mufflers, turbocharged mufflers do not like chambered style mufflers. The turbos will quiet your exhaust down quite a bit though.
Salvage title info for your state will be on the net, but how to find it... I couldn't tell you. If it's too hard, just call or go to the dmv & ask them about it.
