so i'm installing my gears....and im to the crush sleeve part....so i pull open my box o new parts and notice the gears came with one size nut and crush sleeve and the ratech kit came with a diff size nut and crush sleeve

same thread size and diameter, but the beefiness of the two are extremely different. does it matter which i use?

Looks like the collar on the left has been used before. If they are the same height they shouldnt matter since the right one looks new. As for the nut there shouldnt be any difference between them.

It's the width of the crush sleeve that matters. Are they both the same? As long as there's enough crush left in it to reach proper torque you'll be good.

they are both new. the one on the left came with the gears. the one that came with the bearing kit is the one on the right, the smaller puney lookin one. the outside diameter is bigger on the right one while the inside diameter is equal between the two. the heigth on both of them are equal as well.

Intersting. What brand gears did you buy. MY FMS 4.10's came today and I also ordered a cruch sleeve from Summit. I'll be interested to see if there is any difference.

yea bernie, i got FMS gears 3.73 the one on the left is the FMS one. it looks freakin intense. haha.

oh btw, i dont know if you know this but with FMS gear sets there should be an engraved marking (+1, +2, -1, -2) type of an engraving on the pinion which i found out means .030 is the baseline shim amount, if there is no stamp you should be able to install with the .030 shim it comes with and be done. but if there is engraved +2 you install the .030 shim + the .012 shim and you should be at perfect pinion depth. i tested this theory and it seems to work absolutely perfect in my case.

oh for sure! but for those who have zero idea. its a good baseline, mock it up in there and apply the compund and check the markings. it worked out first try.
