Question 245/40/17 on 17"x9" rim

Will be going 5 lug in the next month and would like to use 10th ann. cobra's which are 17x9's. I have a very new set of 245/40/17 BFG KDW2's on my Cobra R's and I wondering if these will be too narrow for a 9 inch wheel? My main concern is not that its width is 245mm but the fact that it is a 40 series tire. For instance a '05+ GT runs a 235mm on a 8.5" rim but that possible because of a large sidewall.

...I used a 245/45-17 tire up front with my 17x9 '95 Cobra R wheels on my 1991 GT...275/40 out back!

I had 245 45's on 9 inch rims and the lip of the wheel stuck out a hair too much for my liking. It really depends on the brand of tire really.

I run 235 40 17 on mine. Had to roll the front fender lip and install steering rack limiters but other than that they work fine. Mines an 89 lowered 1".
