Default What is this shock behind my rear tire?

i am trying to get wider tires in the rear but i was told the biggest i could go is 245's due to the clearance issue with this shock. what is this? what is its purpose? can it be taken off? does something need to be put back on in another location? i see others with 275's and 295's so i know there is a way.

It's called a quad shock and it helps prevent wheel hop. You can flip it for added clearance.

255's will fit on 16 inch ponys with minimal tail pipe rub on cornering

do you have your exhaust running all the way out? i have 295s. i had to beat the inner part of the fender well to stop rubbing. took 10 mins on both sides. (5.5 backspacing) . before that i had 265s without any rubbing. but its was a 4 banger origianly so i only have dual shocks.
