The clunking coming from the rear ended up being a bent left axle.

While the mechanic is back there I'm thinking I might as well go and do the gear and carrier since my traklok has gone to crap.

My question is, should I go 31 spline? I'm pressed for money but if they're more of a necessity i'll throw down the extra cash.
Also, I enjoy driving on the highway and tearing up the city roads so i'm thinking 3.55's. What do you think? (It's an AOD)

How much should the whole swap cost in labor? I think they charge $75 an hour. Its a well known muscle car shop around here so I trust em.

well if you go 31 spline you'll need a 31 spline carrier which is more cash, just put in a junkyard axle and rebuild the t-lok

thanks, I'm thinking of just doing that. How much hp/tq can the stock 28 splines last?

More than you will have to worry about uless you plan on 5000 RPM clutch drop launches on slicks, 28 splines will be more than enough.

with an AOD stict with the stock 28 spline...just find a used axle is your best bet!
