can a non fender mounted cai mess up a mass air meter because of too much air?

what would make you think your getting more air from a non fender mount than a fender mount? and why would it mess it up? never heard of such a thing.

because ever since i put one on, the car likes to idle high for the first 5min. its like the computar has to adjust itself or something

From everything i've heard nothing like that would happen... could be wrong but I think the stock MAF will only read a certain amount of air... Thats why you can upgrade to a "bigger" one with bigger injectors... could be wrong though

I'll tell you something that I had experience with. I put a filter right on my MAF sensor and it would never run right...well, it wouldn't idle on its own until a little warmed up. I put the stock air back on with an AMS oil 2 stage filter and it ran perfect. The problem I'm guessing was that it had too much turbulent air, which is what I think you're getting at. I still run the stock air box without the air silencer because it is a CAI IMO. The area it draws air from is really large and pulls air from the fender, not hot engine air.
