Default HELP! 94gt 5.0 start making random loud rubbing!

I have which seems like it could be quite the issue.. I went to drive my car last night and i started driving fine. about 30 seconds later it sounded like a VERY loud rubbing sound. So I thought something was rubbing when i was driving...so i pulled over, and parked it. i gave it a bit of gas to see if it would make the noise while parked, and it started to again(it didnt do it every time i gave it gas, but it would just randomly start and stop on its own). i have a 94 GT 5.0L 5spd convert. Its deffinately coming from SOMEwhere under the hood..
Does anyone have any idea what this could be? and how screwed I might be?!?
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

did you smell anything? If you smell what smells like burning oil, it's probably your belt that's not adjusted correctly, or you may need a new one. Same thing happened to me when I forgot to adjust the belt, and it started squealing at higher speeds/rpm's and popped. Stupid error on my part, but any slack in the belt will do it.

You can check your balancer to see if it's wobbling. Can you hear it as your standing by the engine area w/ the hood up?

I just went outside and checked it again...i can hear it with the hood up standing right there... I have to give it gas for the noise to start... its REALLY loud..almost like a whinning sound can will last anywhere from 4-10seconds after i let off the throttle. would anything in the upper intake cause this? because i thought it was maybe coming from that area.. i dont see any fluid leaks anywhere. i don't think its the timing belt because i know the squealing sound those make when they squeal. maybe a vacuum line? pressure leaking from the engine? could that happen?

ok, so i just took the car to the CVS store less than a mile away, and once again it was making the loud noise on and off. When i left the store, i started to accelerate harder than usual(maybe like 3500rpm) to see if anything would happen, and the engine shut down. So i rolled into a parking lot right close. I proceeded to try starting it back up so i could make it home, except it wouldn't fire up. electrical is all working, you hear the starter trying to start it, but it just wont fire up...now im royally screwed.
Anybody got any info for me now? once again, always appreciated!

ok..so someone who knows more about cars than me suggested my problem is the timing belt/chain?? could this be correct? also, if that is what broke, would anything else be damaged? or just that?
