Default strange shudder?

I am getting a very weird shudder at lower speeds the shudder starts at
2000rpm in 2nd
1500rpm in 3rd
and just off idle in 5th
I am guessing it is speed related but when I am going downhill and letting the car go past the speed where the vibrations normally start nothing happens. also I am not noticing a vibration when revving car slowly in neutral. This vibration shakes the whole dash.

The shudder is when accelerating only as well soon as I let off the gas it stops. I occurs around 35-40mph

I don't see how it could be fuel pressure since it seems to be speed related but only under acceleration. It happens at various rpms. Could it be a seized front u joint or something i have never experienced one go before so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes! get that balancer replaced asap if its wobbling unless you want the engine to shake itself to pieces. The rubber ring can eventually wear out which ruins the balancer. Replace it and see if the shudder is gone. If not then check the u-joints.

The thing is I cannot afford to do much so I am trying to figure out the biggest problem I cannot drive my car over 35 which is pretty rendering it useless. I think the balancer may be an issue but not the big one. when a front u joint seizes could it cause this my car would chirp/squeak when going slow before now it does not and it shakes when accelerating only not when coasting downhill.

Lets put it this way...

A bad balancer will shake the engine to pieces. Result? Could end up costing you $1g or more depending on how bad it is. You could lose the block.

A bad u-joint at the trans can snap. Result? The driveshaft will drop and the dig into the raod surface, either pole vaulting the car or tearing the entire underside of the car up. Or both. That will cost a LOT more than $1g. A bad rear u-joint is not as bad but you wont be driving for a while.

Check them both. You cant afford not to.

I checked the balancer and revved the car up by the throttle body and looked at it and it seems fine there is no wobble. it was a sort of optical illusion I guess because the uneven shape of the balancer.

I am going to pick up a u-joint before all the stores are closed for the long weekend and give that a try when I am off on Sunday.

I took the drive shaft out and inspected the front u joint and one cap contained nothing but a pile of dust there was not one bearing left and the cap was chewed up pretty bad. My massive vibration is now gone along with the chirping I thought was a bad throwout bearing.
