Default Fluid leak under dash

I need some help with a oily leak that looks like it is coming from the seal on trans that connects to the speedo cable, the fluid does look red and I want to find out if there is a seal on the speedo cable that could cause the fluid to go through the speedo cable and create a leak, or does anyone have any other thoughts?

ck the vent on the trans. may be building pressure inside the trans ans pushing it into the cable. I had a taurus that did the same thing.

I HAVE seen it creep up the cable... right onto my dress slacks!! The dry cleaners didn't want too touch that one, but I got it out for the most part. Anyway, a buddy of mine changed my tranny fluid about 7 years ago, and he ended up over-filling the tranny. How, you ask? He jacked up the right side of the car, leaving the fill hole higher in relation to where the fluid pools. Two days later, it started dripping out from under the console, but I didn't know it at first. I started noticing that some of my pants ended up with a quarter-sized dark spot on the right leg at the bottom. It only happened while I was driving, probably because as the tranny heated, the pressure helped force fluid up the cable. I eventually figured it out, and cleaned all the excess fluid out from under the console, and by that time, my leaky driveshaft seal had mostly taken care of the overfill problem. I took it to a mechanic, and he jacked it up level, opened the top hole, and surprise, tranny fluid.
