Default New guy with 87 Hatch

Hey guys.. I have a 87 GT that's waiting to be brought back to me.

I'm thinking of garaging her and start to do things I've always wanted to do with it.

One the first things on my list is to upgrade to 5 Lug and convert my rear to discs. While I'm doing this, I'd like to throw in some gears, but I don't have an idea of what to choose. I know alot of people swear by certain ones, so I'll throw you some info to help you understand what she'll be doing. She'll be a weekend warrior, driving on the highway going to shows and what not, won't be a daily driver, but I'd also like SOME fuel economy, but I'm not looking for 30MPG but also not 5MPG.

355 with stick is my vote. I'm gonna get jumped on for this but I think the 5 lug swap is overated unless you want more rim choices.

I'd go 3.73's.

Everyone has their own views on the 5 lug swap

Thanks for the input.

What would the 3.73s give me over 3.55s?
EDIT:
Sorry, that sounded like I was doubting your choice. Just wondering what the pros of 3.73s are and vice versa.

3.73 will give you more low end, which with a 5 speed will be ok. 3.73 with an auto may be a little high RPM on the highway. I have 3.55's with an auto and it runs around 2500 RPM at 75 mph and still plenty of tire burning low end. and i agree about the 5 lug being over rated. Disc brakes are a huge plus though

Oh, ok! Thanks for clearing that up

That's one of the reasons is going to discs in the rear and going bigger rotors up front.

I vote for 3.73s and I want to go 5 lug (one day) for the better rim choice and the rear disc look.

I am going 3.73's. IMO 3.55's are good if you have a boosted car.

I'm planning on being boosted, a friend of mind who builds custom manifolds said he'd build me some for just the cost of materials.

But brakes and other safety matters will come before boost. Don't want to have alot of power and not have alot of brake
