Default Brief grinding noise when shifting HARD.

The trans shifts great all the time, except when shifting HARD and I mean tearing it into second . I have a pro 5.0 shifter, so I know I am not going to break that, but I know that does not mean the trans is indestructible. The trans makes a brief grinding sound when shifting really hard into second. It does not kick back or anything, it goes right in, but just makes a very brief grinding sound. It has always done this, but I was wondering if this is an indication of a problem in the future. I can still shift quickly into second with out going crazy on it, so maybe I should take it a little easier . It's just so much fun to rip through the gears with the pro 5.0!

I get a similar noise when shifting fast. Here is a video. You can vaguely hear of a bit of crunch noise as I go into 3rd.

Sometimes I get the noise you are talking about at the track. In the vid I granny shift second since she is wearing snow tires.

examine the gear hub/ synchro teeth for mushrooming= smashed flat, It most likely is a combination of worn blocker rings which mesh with the synchro teeth on the gear hub that stop the gear from spinning when gear change takes place this response goes to the OP TO, SOUNDS like both of you have the same issue, = time for a tranny rebuild

my tranny will sometimes vibrate/grind. if its cold and i shift slow.. it will kinda vibrate and make a squeak noise.. dosnt sound like a grind and it shifts fine/smooth.

also grinds hard if i shift too fast. she used to bark 3rd hard but not anymore lol.

Thanks for the tip MJ46. If the trans ever comes out I will change those parts. In the meantime I don't bother to shift like that. The car runs pretty much the same et speed shifting (basically as fast as I can, like the 2-3 in the vid) or a quick shift. I'm pretty confident the trans will last the life of the car with just quick shifting and normal driving.
