Default Dampener Removal Question (pic)

I tried a 2/3 jaw puller but it wouldnt budge. Then I picked up a steering wheel puller. In the Professional Products Harmonic Balancer instructions, it says never to apply force to the outside if the dampener, so I think the steering wheel puller is the best bet. I removed the crank bolt and washer that hold the balancer in place, then re-installed the crank bolt (without washer) and attached the puller. I used some PB Blaster on the shaft, but its not budging. Now the engine rotates when I apply enough force.

Is this the right way to remove the balancer? Does the oil pan need to come off first?

wrench on it harder and you may need something like a chain wrench to hold balasncer from rotating

Did you say you reinstalled the crank bolt???? You have to leave the bolt out. The bolt is holding it in place.

he removed the washer so as long as the treads aren't catching on the balancer inner...what he is doing should work, reread his post and look at the pic and it'll make sense what he is doing, I had to do a double take when I first read it but I understand what he is doing

Take your time. You do know that there is a puller called a harmonic balancer puller right. It haves 3 slots on one end and 1 on the other that way it can be used for a 2 point or a 3 point. But that puller does the same thing except the 3 point would work better bc it is pulling on e different points. But good luck.

Thanks guys, got it off with some leverage, removed the timing chain cover, and cam. Finally got the new cam installed, but one of the bolts that hold the water pump/timing cover to the block broke off. I bought one of those easy out kits, drilled the proper sized hole and used the right tool, but it broke off inside the bolt too. So now I have a real mess on my hands. Aren't hobbies fun....
