Rear end with better gears

Rear end with better gears
I forget what cars have 8.8's or 7.5's with better gears than 2.73's that have drum brakes or I can take the discs off and put my drums on. I know thunderbirds have them but I forget what years exactly.

Explorers are not a direct bolt in though are they? With the Tbirds can I just take off the disc assemblies and slap on my drum setup so I don't have to upgrade anything else in my system? Just so I have the better gears.

^^^^^correct left side only, just use the guts out of a 7.5 if you wish to keep your housing intact, I used the guts out of an 85 gt cause the housing was bent in a roll over and I swapped out the trac loc into my 4 cyl 7.5 and used the 4 cyl ring and pinion cause it was 3.45 ratio...which I still have if your interested 25 beans and the 7.5 ring and pinion are yours and I have the shims which should be just slide in and go

Hmmmmm........ I will have to keep that in mind just in case I can't find something here for a good price. I am gonna see what I can find here in the junk yard next time I go. I forgot that 79-85? have a 7.5 rear.
Do you know what all ratios the rangers had for a rear?

1985 would be the last year for the 7.5" rear on the Mustang...even some full size trucks us the 8.8" rear...most of the time you can decode the tag on the rear to get the gear ratio...OR count the tooth's on the ring & divide by the tooth's pinion...
