exhuast valve caps???
My dad has a 351 windsor at work and took it out of a old 87 f-250 work truck for his boss. The engine shop he took it to took it apart and noticed the exhuast valve were kinda mushroomed. where the rocker presses on it at. They asked him if he had the little caps for the exhuast valves. My question is are these things real? Iv'e never came across anything like this in any engine that i have torn down and rebuilt and was just wondering if this guy is blowing smoke. any input would be great. If they are real where can i get these caps.

he is reffering to what is called lash caps, and yes they are real. there pretty much a piece of hardened steel that fits over the end of the valve to prevent wearing like you described.

Yup they were on my 78 heads that I just took off. I was wondering what they were for and what would happen if they were not on there.
