I have a 1965 Mustang coupe, and I am considering putting a 5.0 in it. What changes do I need to make to have that happen. Does the bellhousing match up with the 289, and does my 3 speed tranny match with the 5.0 engine?

same as a 289 so you should be fine

Are you talking about a C4? Yes it will bolt right up no matter what transmission it is, as long as it bolts up to your 289. The motor mounts should be the same also.

why not just put a 351 in it?

the 5.0 will bolt right up.
if I am not mistaken I think the 289 is just a de-stroked 302, so the blocks and bellhousing are the same pattern.

It should be the same as the 289 but if not they make a kit for mustangs. I have seen alot of late model mustangs with 5.0's in them and it looks good.

It is the same exact block, 260s, 289s and 302s, through all years they are all the same exact block.

Same block....dimensionally, just not exactly...roller lifters....etc...
