overheating issue...
I just put new fluid in the radiator and 180 thermostat and hooked up an aftermarket gauge to beable to read the temp alittle better cuz at times it would seem to go up pretty high.. Well.... I took it out and it almost hit 230 after a 15 min drive around town and some highway.. I do NOT like any of my cars running any over 200.. Its full and i have a overflow tank as well.. Why is this overheating.. When i got off work on my way back tonight it ran much cooler but it overheats alot in the day and im sure it would at night if i drove it at a longer distance... What do you guys recommend I do.. Its a 89 mustang 5.0 with 4.10 gears and e303 cam...

RE: overheating issue...
I just got done fighting my overheating issue and it came out to be a blown headgasket. At first, it overheated and my stock radiator was cracked. Then I put in a Fluidyne aluminum radiator and it ran fine for like a few days. Then it started puking out coolant at rest after driving. I changed the radaitor cap after I found that it was cracked. It ran fine for like an hour, then I drove it on the freeway and came to a stop and white smoke came blowing out the exhaust-blown headgasket.....

RE: overheating issue...
DONT SAY HEADGASKET...thats a word of sin in my gasket.. i might try a mr.gasket thermostat or drill holes in mine and maybe a alum. radiator? It runs just fine and shows no sign of headgasket and its not running THAT hot.. I just dont think its getn enough air to the radiator or its not efficent enough to handle it...

RE: overheating issue...
it might be headgasket if all else fails. Try the little stuff first. Are you 100% the thermostat isn't backwards? Do you have an air pocket? Does your fan work? My fan was the problem a few years ago. I had a melted plug. Is the waterpump stock? Is your radiator cap good? I hope it isnt' your headgasket. That would suck bad.

RE: overheating issue...
the thermostat is in good and it has a new radiator cap... the radiator is about 7 years old i think and i think the water pump is stock it look old but doesnt leak or make any noises.. I heard if its the water pump it would always run hot just not depending on weather.. I think the radiator is just old or needs an aluminum one maybe? I dont know but its sure annoying and getting to be a costly project car when it was never ment for that purpose!

RE: overheating issue...
I've gone through like 3 radiators before I realized that I need to get an aluminum one. I didn't go over 2 years with the same radiator. My very first one I replaced was so clogged, I had no idea how it lasted the whole summer.

i am going through the same thing right now myself. Couldn't find the problem so i gave up and bought an electric fan, aluminum radiator, thermostat, new hoses, and a new waterpump

RE: overheating issue...
what I did was buy a 3 row rad..like 125.00 a 180 mr g stat....you cancheck the flow by pulling the car while cold and what the water...I'd say you don't have a H/G problem......using some NAPA rad flush will clean thing..if you want it down right you need to pull the stat and replace the housing
