Default Air blows out of the defrost but not the vents

so i finally hooked the vacuum line back up under my hood that controls the heat, and it will blow out of the defrost, or the floor or both.. depending on which setting i have the switch on.. so i hooked the vacuum up directly to the vent line (yellow) and it would not open the one for the vents, so im curious what in the line could have gone bad causing it to not come out of the vents.

thanks,
Keith

if there are no vaccum lines broken anywhere it could have a defective vaccum dashpot motor for vent function

HMMMMMMMMMM???....GOOD QUESTION.......possibley still from ford direct...first you'd have to confirm that's what it is by tapping into the line that goes to the correct motor and with a vaccum pump pull it open and closed, the gauge on your vaccum pump should be able to register it holding the door open or closed without a drop in vaccum applied on the gauge

well i hooked up the correct vacuum line for that vent directly to the black one, which is the one that feeds the rest while the car was running, so that should have been more than enough to open it

yes but hooking a vaccum pump to it will verify 100 percent if it has a ruptured diaphram

trace the line to the motor and make sure it is not broken

Sorry for the lack of terminology here but behind my passenger fender there are (2) 6" little canister things that have lines to both of them.. I had the lines switched on them on accident and I had your same problem.. unable to switch where the airflow comes out.. switched the lines on the canisters and worked like a charm for 5 years now.
