RE: Supercharged stock 5.0
i wouldnt go more than 8 psi on a stock motor
and the entry level 5-6 psi kit i've seen them bolted to a bonestock 5.0 and it ripped, he got a bigger fuel pump or FMU (one of those) but he didnt need to change injectors and it ran fine

procharger would be great, especially intercooled. vortech is also really good and costs less but they dont have air-to-air intercoolers, they use air-to-water. so there kits arent meant for an air-to-air intercooler so the pipes wont run that way so youll need custom pipes to run a vortech with an intercooler

8psi is the industry standard for stock 5.0 engines. You could run 10 psi with the proper tune no problem as well, but thats about as far as your gonna want to go.. Its all about the tune, boost doesnt kill, detonation does.
I'm assuming your looking into centrifugal S/C's. If you want to run 10 PSI the best thing to do would be to pick up your choice of centrifugal S/C and run it at the standard entry level 8 PSI. All you have to do is add an AFM Power pipe and youll see at least 10psi. The AFM pipe simply allows the S/C to be more efficient by acting as an unrestricted inlet pipe.

Will a stock 89 5.0 handle a supercharger? Maybe around 10 pounds of boost or so, and if you have it done what would you recommend?

I wouldnt go more than about 5-6psi. But thats only me. Some people will tell you they put 20psi on the motor. Its only a matter of time before it goes boom.

There is a good side to you running an aftercooler if you do. 6 aftercooled psi will put out just as much power as a 10psi non-cooled setup, but there will be a toll. The aftercooler will rob about 1psi from your setup so it will end up being like 6 aftercooled psi = 9 non-cooled psi. The colder you can get the air, the bigger the gain. If I were you I would search for a very good aftermarket air/air unit.
