Default Differential Cross-pin

I have never actually had this happen so I would like only people who know for sure or people who know someone who has done this whether or not I can keep it the way it it.

Ok,my retainer bolt for my cross-pin broke at the threads so I couldnt get the rest of the bolt out in turn not letting me get the pin out. So I ended up using a punch and hammer to hit the pin and get it out and I didnt really have to hit it very hard,I already tried other methods without any luck.So I have a pic of the problem.I ended up breaking off a piece of the case around the bolt,so instead of a perfect circle it has a small opening. My question is will this be ok or will there be too much stress on the bolt now that it has no lower support? Im not sure that the bolt even reaches below the pin so it might not have had that lower support in the first place.

Although there is no real stress on the pin, the other side where it's broken does share in supporting the pin. You have a 50/50 shot at not having a problem. Do you still have the broken piece that you could have it welded back in?

No it split the piece.Im really on the fence about this. There really isnt much support there to begin with.I would think the pin itself would be fine with such a small piece missing but its hard to say. Thanks for the reply

Is there any space in the carrier where that side of the pin can reach in to or is the entire supporting canal broken?

Yes there is a small amount of the wall support left.Is there possibly a longer bolt?If there is that might work.

Like I said, I tried almost everything. I did this as a last resort.

I have never seen longer bolts. How much area is there left for the pin to rest in?

Good chance you'll be ok. There is no pressure to speak of on that pin. That's why such a cheesey pin is used in the first place.
