Default Help with heads?

Hey guys, back to power adding to the stang. I'm looking at heads right now, should I go with the GT40X or GT40. I see this "adds 65 hp" **** all over the X's so if that is true then I'm going to lean on those. The main question I have is if I buy the GT40X heads do I HAVE to have roller rockers or will ped mounts work? Same thing goes for the GT40's. What are the benefits of the roller rockers? I have a TFS1 cam ready to go in but I want to wait on the heads since it just seems right to hang on until I get the set done. Right now I have the cobra intake set up with the cobra computer and I'm putting down 232/276. After the heads and cam what do you think I'll be at? Thanks.

The GT-40X heads are good heads, but there are many better flowing heads out there. TrickFlow and AFR are just a few. However, if you are set on the GT-40's I'd go for the X's. They're made of aluminum versus iron, which dispenses heat more easily and prevents knocking and pinging. Plus they are light weight at only 22lbs. Since they are Ford Racing they are meant to fit Ford parts. You can use the stock Rockers wit these heads, however, what's the point. I would lean toward some Crane Roller Rockers. They are a 1:6 ratio versus the stock 1:5. The TFS-1 cam is perfect for your application. With your new mods I would guess your car would make around 275rwhp and 300tq.

That works for me, but what are the benefits of the roller rockers?

+1
The roller tip design reduces friction by not scrubbing the valve end or pushing the valve stem hard against the valve guide.

I doubt you will see a 65 hp increase from the heads...there are better choices, but key is have a good cam and intake combo with good heads

I already have the GT40 intake, so I figured I would go with the GT40X heads and the TFS1 cam. There is really no point in buying a new intake since I want to get a kenne bell after this next deployment I have coming up. That's pretty much it. I will spend the money and get the heads and rollers and get the dyno done so we can see if I get even close to 65 hp gain. Thanks for all the help guys.

I am not too concerned with how much power it makes, but how the car runs. No matter what, the stock heads are junk. Highflow heads and a good cam will really wake up your stang. Case in point, before my Heads and cam, I ran a 9.39@78 1/8th mile(219hp/267rwtq)(auto). With tune, heads, cam, and stall, I eeked it down to an 8.42@84mph 1/8th(271rwhp/311rwtq)
