Is it a tapping noise like rocker arm tapping or is it like, a loud metal on metal noise?

Also, you said 600 miles. I'm assuming it's a new engine since your sig says fresh 306???

if i was you. id pull valve covers off and check just to be sure. my buddy with a 68mustang (331 stroker) had a lil tapping noise. and his rocker actually came off while romping on it a week or 2 ago. it doesnt take long to pull off the valvecovers. so id check just to be sure. and if its a fresh 306. you may want to retorque it all down again anways.

it is a rocker arm tapping sound but i already pulled the valve covers and re-torqued them and it has all but gotten worse

Did it get worse immediately after you re-torqued? Or did it gradually get worse again like the original slow to worse to worst noises? If it instantly became 10x worse after you re-torqued perhaps it is the rockers even though you just re torqued.

post a video of the noise, but you need to check the valve adjustment by making sure each adjustment is set or checked while the lifter is on the base circle of the cam while checking each valve
