dizzy question and pic

this is what my dizzy looks like at 10* btdc

i know its wrong and should look more like this

http://www.mustangevolution.com/arti...4/dscn0019.jpg

i plan on taking the timing chain cover off tommorrow to determine if the chain was set up right. All i remember when i set it was dot to dot. is there a correct way or easy way to go about this?

i planned on putting the cyc 1 at tdc and then start tearing the waterpump and stuff off. i'm hoping that the crank doesnt spin when i hit it with the impact. i won't be taking the heads off so there will be know real way to see tdc on cyc 1. any heads up or pointers would be appreciated, thanks guys

on a side note: does that engine in the second pic look like its leaning to the right?

mjr46 11-14-2008 10:31 PM

it does look like engine is tilted slightly....65 or 66 mustang right???....make sure the engine was set equally on the motor mounts:)

mjr did you even read the full post, i just got that pic off the net to compare what my dizz should sit like.? i just saw that at the end of my post so i typed it as a sidenote

it looks like your a tooth off on the distributor, why are you tearing off the cover and chain?

crusin92red5.0 11-14-2008 11:02 PM

cuz i can't stab the dizzy right at all. i've tried atleast 50 times, ,other people have tried. it goes a little left, restab, a little right,,,,,,,,,, it never lines up with the number one. then i time it to ten and it looks like that, plus i have a small waterpump gasket leak, so i'm gonna knock that off too.

You're not going to see anything by taking the cover off as far as the distributor being in correctly. If the gears were dot to dot and you're sure of it, you'll be wasting your time. Take out the dizzy, and rotate it 1 tooth and drop it back in and see what happens.

crusin92red5.0 11-15-2008 02:42 AM

i know what happens its this

lets just call this the left tooth
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...0240822581.jpg

right tooth
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...0240822571.jpg

it never will line up

PRO50SC 11-15-2008 02:53 AM

OK, so? Start it up and see what happens. The first pic (left tooth), if you rotate the dizzy to the right, it will line up. Get it?

You gotta do something w/ that first pic, like resize it so it doesn't stretch the page. Reading this thread is a PITA!!!

crusin92red5.0 11-15-2008 03:02 AM

sorry about the pic size. i did put the dizzy in like that and i turned the dizzy so that i would line up intially to get it started, then i set the timing to 10 and that made me turn the dizzy like the original pic of first post.

i still don't understand cuz i have seen mutiple pics of engine bays and the dizzy is set up like the second pic of the 66 mustang. i just can't get mine like that, its literally about to touch the thermostat housing and thats why i thought i got off one tooth on the actuall chain, which would then have the cam in a diff position, which would cause problems with my valves and make my car run like crap. maybe i'm just hunting for a problem that might not exist but i can't think of anything else that would cause my car to run like crap.

PRO50SC 11-15-2008 03:19 AM

Have you had anyone else look at the car?
