Default feathered oil pan gasket

The oil pan on my 5.0 is feathered out and leaks oil. I took it in for an estimate and I know its already kinda hard to get at but would you really have to take out the engine to change out a $20 gasket? Plus they were saying 15+ hours of labor. Any ideas on this one if anyone has run into this problem? Cant afford no $1500 for a $20 part.

The engine can be jacked all the way up, the pan dropped while still in the car. The gasket snaked in. W/ a lil finesse, it can be done.

i changed the oil pan gasket on my friends 94 gt (practically the same underneath) with jackstands. We already had the timing cover and all that stuff off but i didnt need to jack the engine up or do anything with the k-member although it would make it a lot easier. And yes snakin the gasket into place while you're under it takes some time.

like pro5osc stated it can be done in the car that way....it's a little patience trying but none the less it can be done.....I'd probably figure on 4-6 hrs max depending on your capability to do such work
