Default Head/Alternator swap, belt won't fit?

Hey guys. It's almost 1 a.m. and I just got done my head swap. I also changed out the alternator, which by the way is almost the same size as the new one, however, the belt will not fit properly because it's too big. By the way, I went from stock heads to GT40's. Need some advice as to why it won't fit. Thanks.

well do you still have the old alternator? if so try throwin that one on real quick to see if it fits right. cause a head swap shouldnt move the brackets

Is the new alternator correct for your application...make, model, and year? And when you say the belt is too big, is the belt too long or is it too wide to fit the pulley?

If thats all good then double check all the accessories if the belt uses them for tension adjustment. If you have an automatic tensioner there shouldnt be a problem unless the tensioner is that far gone it wont hold the belt. If that isnt it then something is definitely out of whack. You could always try the old heads and see if the belt still wont fit. If youre feeling adventerous .

Putting the other heads back on is absolutely out of the question, haha. I will have to double check it and see what is going on. I'm going to swap out the alternators but I don't think that is the problem. Maybe it will work, maybe not. Hope I figure this **** out today though, need to test the new equipment, haha.

Okay, so looking at the alternators the only difference is the protector behind the pulley. The pullies are the same on each alternator so I'm just dumb founded right now. Should I say screw it and buy another belt or what?

The bracket locations are exactly the same between E7's and GT40's
