bad solenoid?

bad solenoid?
my starter won't disengage, so i put on a new solenoid and connected battery and the starter kept cranking. Then i tapped on the solenoid with a wrench and the starter stopped. Is this a bad solenoid or is something else making the solenoid stick?

Another thing to also make sure of is that there's no corrosion or spliced wires around that area. Not sure if you have original wiring in your car, but around that area there's a lot of wiring going on. Make sure all of that is clean and not having a wire double back and interfere with it. Just a quick check really!
If that's not the case, if you already replaced the solenoid what kind did you get? Ive replaced mine several times and each time the solenoid was a piece of junk, the ones from napa / pep boys / kragen, they don't seem to have the high quality solenoids we 5.0stangers require.

could be another bad selonoid, but also make sure that the ignition feed to engauge selonoid is not the prob a simple test light on that small wire when the prob occurs will verify that, if it's not lite then it's most likely a selonoid issue based on what you did to correct issue

I took back the $10 duralast solenoid and exchanged it for a $20 duralast gold. Hooked up new solenoid, connected battery, performed a base idle reset, set tps and took it for a test drive and all is good.

yea, thanks...the description of the problem you mentioned was exactly what was going on. I found out about tapping the solenoid with a wrench from Pro50SC telling someone to try it in a older thread....thanx Pro50sc.
